Taş Tepeler

Şanlıurfa · Southeastern Türkiye

Older than the pyramids.

Seven thousand years older — raised before farming, before writing, before history itself.

What it is

The oldest monuments on Earth.

Eleven thousand years ago, hunter-gatherers raised rings of carved stone in the hills of Şanlıurfa — pillars taller than the people who made them, covered with animals and the dead.

Then they buried it all. No one knows why.

Excavated since 1995 · the Taş Tepeler project
